Friends and Lovers

Xena woke and immediately became suspicious. She was alone. She'd expected not to see Gabrielle, for the bard had left the other day to visit her family in Potadeia. However, Joxer and Eve were both missing. Eve was not by Xena's side, where she usually slept, and Joxer wasn't on his bedroll. Making a quick round of the camp site, she saw no evidence of foul play. She stopped her survey when her ever alert senses picked up the sound of Eve's tiny laugh coming from the other side of the trees.

Xena rushed through the trees, only to stop at the edge, not too far from the nearby lake. The sight before her chased away the momentary panic she had felt, and replaced it with love and tenderness. There was Joxer, sitting on a rock at the lake's edge with his pants hiked up and dangling his feet in the water. His right hand held a fishing rod, and his left held Eve, who was sitting on her 'uncle's' lap. He was telling her about fishing with Xena and Gabrielle, punctuating his remarks with tickles to the child's belly. He knew she couldn't understand a word he said, yet there she sat, giving him her full attention.

After a few minutes, Xena reluctantly gave a cough, letting the others know she was nearby. Joxer turned to see she was awake, and gave her a big smile. He bent his head down to his young charge. "Look, Evie, Mommy's up." Xena walked over to them, and lowered herself to their level. "Hi Mommy," Joxer bravely greeted his friend.

"Well hello there. Eve, tell your uncle Joxer that if he ever scares me like that again, we're going to have to find you another uncle." Joxer gave her a confused look. "No one was there when I woke up. I worried something had happened."

"I'm sorry. I woke up early, and saw Eve awake. I didn't want to wake you, so I took her here so you could get some sleep."

"It's ok. Just leave me a note next time, all right?" Joxer nodded. "Why don't we go back and get some breakfast?" She took her daughter back, giving her a hug, and they returned to the campsite.

Breakfast consisted of leftover fish from last night's supper. By now, Joxer and Xena were used to this kind of lifestyle, yet it would have been nice to have some nice bacon and eggs every now and again. Once they'd finished their feast, they packed up Argo and headed down the road to Cereus. They'd heard that Jace, Joxer's brother, was going to be there for the next week, and thought they'd pay him a visit. They were still two days away, and considered themselves lucky that they hadn't met up with any Gods lately, and were determined to take advantage of their absence by enjoying the company of the small child that had changed all their lives.

Along the road, Xena and Joxer took turns carrying Eve. Joxer had packed up his armour with his bedroll so he could take his turn with Eve's carrier. However, he was still wearing his unique hat, which Eve loved to play with.

They'd been on the road half a day and were seriously considering pausing to eat lunch when Xena stopped in the middle of the road. She held up a hand to Joxer, telling him not to speak so that she could listen. Moments later, the surrounding bushes erupted with a dozen armed thugs.

Xena stepped forward, taking the brunt of the attack. Joxer, whose turn it had been to carry Eve, fell back and lay the child a distance from the fighting. He took out his sword, ready to do what he must to protect the child.

Xena was doing well against the thugs when one broke away, having spotted Joxer and Eve behind her. The thug lunged and Joxer clumsily parried his first few feints. The thug, seeing Eve, tried to maneuver Joxer so he could get to the child. Joxer saw what the thug was trying to do, and ran between him and Eve. Joxer barely realized what happened next, for all his senses could handle was the sensation of blinding pain.

Xena had just finished off the eleventh man in the dozen when she heard a strange gurgling moan behind her. She turned to see the last thug with his sword deep in Joxer's side. Within moments, the thug was lying dead on the ground, his throat cut by Xena's sword.

Xena took a second to make sure Eve was still alive, then went to Joxer's side. He was bleeding badly from the wound he'd taken, and Xena quickly ran to Argo to get some supplies. She bandaged him up as best she could, but she knew only the help of a healer could keep him from Hades' realm. She took the carrier and, placing Eve in it, slid it onto her back. She carefully placed Joxer on Argo's back, then mounting herself, led the horse into a gallop. They were not very far from the town of Mythol., and she desperately hoped they had a healer.

On the ride, Xena tried her best to concentrate on the road before her, but her mind kept flashing back to the last times she'd almost lost this friend. The images of Joxer suffering from the poison from his last sword wound, and especially those of him battered and bloody from his encounter with Titus' goons, wouldn't leave her mind. "You're going to be all right Joxer. Eve needs you, and so does Gabrielle, though she'll never admit it." She shook the images out of her head again. "Even I need you. We both know you're going to be fine."

She felt her worries lessen slightly when they began passing farms. They were almost in Mythol. There had to be a healer there. There just had to be.

As she passed the town gates, she saw a young boy run by. She yelled after him, asking him where the healer lived. He pointed to a nearby house and she galloped on, following his directions. Trusting Argo not to take off, she dismounted and carried Joxer to the door.

The healer, responding to the knocking, opened her door. "Hello. How may I help . . . " Seeing the warrior woman carrying an obviously injured man, she pulled to the side to allow them room to come in. "Take him to that room in the back. I'll get my supplies and be right with you."

Xena felt the moments the healer was taking were a few moments too long. She looked into the face of her companion, tight with pain. Xena wasn't sure whether or not to be thankful he was unconscious, having passed out from the agony of his wound. The healer came into the room, setting out her equipment on a nearby table, then came over to inspect Joxer. She removed his shirt and the makeshift bandage and tried to clean the wound as best she could so that she could see the extent of the damage the man had taken. Xena, ever anxious, tried to help as best she could, but was afraid she was only in the healer's way.

"I'm sorry, but I think it would be best if you and the child wait outside. I need more room to work if I am to save your friend."

Xena reluctantly walked out of the room and settled on a couch by the fireplace. She took Eve out of her carrier and held the girl close to her chest. She rocked her daughter, both to comfort the child and herself. "Don't worry Eve. Your uncle will be all right." She briefly wondered at what she was feeling. Since Eve was born, and perhaps even a little before that, when she'd found out she was pregnant, Xena had become much closer to her family. She'd finally made her mother understand how she felt about raising Eve herself, she'd of course become so much closer to Gabrielle after their time in Rome, and then there was Joxer . . . He was just as much a part of her family as the rest. The thought of losing any of them made her sick to her stomach.

She looked up to see the healer walk out of Joxer's room. She stood up and approached the woman. "How is he?"

"The wound is very deep. I've done all I can for him. From now on, it's up to him. By the way, my name is Melia."

"I'm Xena. This is my daughter Eve, and my friend's name is Joxer." She looked down, noticing Eve had fallen asleep. "Is there somewhere I can lay her down for her nap?"

"Yes. I still have the crib from when my children were born. It's in that room," she said, pointing to the room next to Joxer's.

Xena lay her daughter for a nap, then returned to the main room. "I'm going to stay with Joxer for a while. Could you please tell me when Eve wakes up?"

"Of course. And don't be afraid to speak to him. He needs to know that there are people here who love and need him."

"I will." Xena walked into the room to see Joxer looking quite peaceful in his sleep. Only the gentle rising and falling of his chest let her know he was still alive. She took a chair and placed it next to the bed. She didn't know what to say, but she tried to let some words out anyway. "You know, Gabrielle is really going to be mad at me when she gets back from Potadeia. We all know no one's allowed to hurt you but her." She looked down, unsure of her choice of words. "That didn't quite sound right, didn't it. She really does care for you, you know. She may not be in love with you, but she does care for you. We all do. You're a part of our family, and none of us would be the same without you. Eve's going to need her uncle to teach her how to play the lute and sing her silly songs." She kept her eyes on the still figure before her. "Come on Joxer. Stop worrying us like this. I'm ordering you to wake up."

Joxer didn't answer, and Xena leaned back in her chair. She was almost asleep when she heard movement from the bed. Her eyes snapped open and she took in the sight of Joxer contorted in pain

"Oh, Gods, I think I'm going to die."

"No, you're not going to die Joxer!" She leaned forward and took hold of one of his hands. "You're stronger than that."

"Xena," he gasped as another wave of pain hit. "Take care of Eve and Gabby, though I know you will anyway."

"Joxer, stop talking like that. You're not dying."

"Xena, I have to talk now. What if I don't get the chance later?" He gasped once again.

"Melia!" Xena cried, hoping the healer could relieve him of his pain. "Joxer, you can tell me anything you have to later. Now all you have to concentrate on is feeling better."

"But..." His comment was cut off as Melia ran in and, seeing Joxer's state, grabbed something from the table and put it in his mouth.

"I hope this will help. The pain is so great, I don't have much that can fight it."

Joxer calmed down slightly, the herbs doing their job. "Xena..."

"I'm here Joxer. You're going to be fine."

A slight smile broke through the pain. His hand tightened in hers. "I hope you're right, though I doubt it." He closed his eyes from the battle his body was suffering through. He opened his eyes and looked right into hers. "I love you Xena," he said, right before he closed his eyes, giving in to unconsciousness.

Melia paused a moment, looking at her patient over Xena's shoulder. "As I said, it's up to him now. I hope he makes the right choice."

Xena nodded, not taking her eyes off the man before her. She barely noticed as the other woman left the room. He'd said he loved her, but that could mean anything, right? She remembered all the times she'd given him advice about his love for Gabrielle, and the night he'd finally found the words to tell her. She couldn't help but admire how deeply he could feel for someone without getting anything in return. She'd often wondered if anyone would ever care for her with that kind of unselfishness and intensity...

She remembered the time he'd been caught by the Amazons near their bathing pool. She'd had to help Gabrielle save his life by pretending she'd killed him. She couldn't help but smile as she remembered their little wrestling match. He'd done a good job of hamming it up for the crowd. At one point, he'd even grown tired of allowing himself to be thrown around and had given her a few good punches. She would have never admitted it, but she had been proud of him for that...

And then there was the way he had helped those villagers and comforted that little girl in Chin. There was the way he had looked after his adventures at Aphrodite's hands. There was the way he had looked when they thought Gabrielle had died after falling with Hope, and the way he'd reacted to finding out she was alive. There was the way he laughed, the way he smiled. There was the way he made her laugh. There was the way he loved Eve...

Xena rubbed a hand across her face, wiping away tears that threatened to fall. She wouldn't cry. Joxer would be all right. He'll get up soon and go play with Eve, singing to her and telling her stories.

She leaned back in the chair, closed her eyes, and allowed sleep to finally claim her.

* * *

Xena's eyes opened to see the sun rising through the window. Had she slept that long? She realized she was still holding Joxer's hand in hers, and looking over at the bed, saw he was now awake, watching her.

"Joxer, how do you feel."

"I'm still sore, but I feel much better than I did yesterday."

"Good." She leaned forward to see him better. "How long have you been up?"

"I don't know. Maybe an hour or two."

"Why didn't you wake me?"

"You looked like you needed your sleep almost as much as I did." He smiled much as he had the previous morning.

She smiled back. "You should have woken me. I was worried about you."

"No need to worry. Not even a sword wound can keep Joxer the Mighty down for long."

She laughed quietly. "That's right, Joxer." Almost unconsciously, she reached out a hand and placed her palm on his forehead. She was relieved that it felt cool, so much so she barely noticed Joxer closing his eyes and letting out a small sigh. Her fingers wandered down, along his cheek and his jaw. She stopped when she realized what she was doing. "I'm going to see how Eve is doing."

Eve was asleep in the crib. Melia had been so kind as to feed the girl while her mother worried over Joxer. She walked over to the couch and lay down for a moment. Her mind wandered to the time she and Gabrielle had first met Meg, and their shock at her knowing Joxer. Her girls had seemed quite familiar with him as well, and had seemed very glad to see him. She'd always wondered at the truth of the situation. Part of her didn't want to believe that Joxer visited such places on a regular basis. She knew he was too good for that. He had so much love to give, that any woman should consider herself lucky to be the recipient of that love. Furthermore, she knew after seeing how good he was with Eve that he would make a wonderful father...She laughed at herself for the turn her thoughts had taken.

"Xena?" She looked up to see Joxer standing in his doorway, wearing only his pants and a bandage.

"Joxer. What are you doing up. You should be resting."

"Nah, I feel fine. Anyway, I wanted to see how Eve was doing."

"She's sleeping. Melia had a crib in another spare room for her."

"Melia?"

"She's the healer who lives here."

"Ah." Joxer slowly moved from his doorway to the room next door. Xena got up and wrapped an arm around his waist to help him. He was far weaker than he'd let on. He struggled to walk over to the crib and leant over to see his 'niece'. "She's safe," he said, reaching out to run a finger over a tiny hand.

"Thanks to you."

"I couldn't let anyone hurt her."

"I know. Come on, you need to rest."

Begrudgingly, Joxer allowed Xena to lead him back to bed. He winced as he bent down onto the mattress. It seemed like every move he made shot pain up his nerves.

"How do you feel? Are you hot, cold, hungry?"

"I'm fine. I wouldn't mind a little company though."

"Well, I can't tell a tale like Gabrielle, but I'll try to be as entertaining as possible."

Joxer laughed. "I don't need a story right now, Xena. I just need a friend."

"Well, that I can do."

* * *

Over the next two days, Joxer recovered in Melia's home under Xena's watchful eye. Once he was deemed well enough to move, he insisted on continuing to Cereus. Xena was against it at first, thinking he should rest further. Then she realized perhaps seeing Jace again would help him rather than hinder his progress.

It took two days of Xena walking and Joxer riding Argo, with many stops for Joxer to rest, to reach Cereus. Once there, it didn't take long to find Jace. He and his dancers were performing at one of the local taverns, and apparently they'd become quite popular.

Jace was very happy to see his brother, and immediately enveloped him in a large hug, which Joxer reluctantly accepted. He was still dealing with his brother's 'differences' and was slightly uncomfortable with such obvious shows of affection, but he loved his brother nevertheless.

Jace's greeting for Joxer almost paled to his reaction upon meeting Eve. Without letting Xena or Joxer speak, Jace had taken it upon himself to be Eve's babysitter for the length of their stay in Cereus. He simply adored the child, and she seemed to like him as well.

With Jace's influence, they'd all been given rooms at the tavern, and after their long trip, they decided to take an early night. Xena, in full mother mode, made sure Joxer got to his room in one piece.

"I had no idea your brother would take such a liking to Eve," Xena said, smiling at the memory of Jace babbling contentedly to Eve.

"I'm not surprised. Growing up, you could have sworn that, were it not for the obvious reasons, he was our mother. I didn't mind half as much as Jett did, though I still thought it was annoying." He began pulling his multicoloured shirt off, and paused while his hands were in the air. "Oh."

"What's wrong? Here, I'll help." She pulled the shirt away from his arms and saw the look of pain on his face.

"Thanks. I don't know why, but my arms and shoulders are so sore and stiff. You'd think I'd been sparring with you, rather than just riding Argo."

"Here, I can help with that." Moving behind Joxer, Xena laid her hands on his shoulders. She could feel how tense his muscles were. She began massaging his shoulders, and when she found a particularly tight knot, she pressed on it hard.

"Ah! What are you trying to do, kill me?!"

"Oh, don't be such a baby. It'll feel better in a few seconds."

Joxer answered her comments with an expression that told her how much he didn't believe her. However, after a few seconds, she could see he was surprised that he did feel better. He just shut his mouth and let her do her magic.

Running her hands down his back, she noticed some strange scars. "Joxer, what are these from?"

He pulled away from her and turned around. "You know, Xena, I'm really feeling tired. I think I'm going to turn in."

Xena knew avoidance when she saw it, and thought better than pressing the issue. If Joxer wanted to talk to her about it later, then he would. "All right. I'll see you tomorrow. Good night."

"Good night."

When she'd seen those scars, she'd suspected they weren't accidental, and Joxer's reaction proved her suspicions right. She and Gabrielle had never really taken the time to ask Joxer about his past, and he had certainly not volunteered any information. Perhaps it was time to remedy that.

* * *

The next morning, Xena woke to the smells of food cooking. She quickly got dressed and went to get Eve. She wasn't in her crib, but lying on her blanket was a small note. "Joxer told me to leave you a note so that you would not worry. I'm taking care of Eve, so you can take some time to yourself. Being a mommy is hard work, I should know. --Jace." Xena smiled, shaking her head, then followed her nose downstairs.

Once again, apparently Joxer had woken before her and there he was sitting at a table devouring a plate of eggs and bacon. "Good morning, Joxer. Did you sleep well?"

"Wonderful. The beds are so comfortable, though to me any bed is more comfortable than the ground. You really have to have breakfast. These eggs are great."

She smiled and sat across the table from her companion. Within seconds, a servant came out of the kitchen and placed a plate before her, which she immediately attacked with a vengeance.

"So Joxer, what were you planning on doing today?"

"Well, Jace said he's taking care of Eve and he wants me to do nothing but relax. I tried to tell him that's all I've been doing for days now, but he just won't listen."

"I know what you mean. At least he took your advice about leaving a note." He smiled. "If you feel up to it, why don't we go see what this town has to offer?"

"Are you sure you don't want to just spend some 'me' time alone?"

"Joxer, I've spent enough 'me' time for ten lifetimes. I would like to spend the day with my friend. You know, we've never really had the chance to spend much time together without Gabrielle."

"I know. All right. It would be nice to spend a day walking instead of sitting or laying down."

They quickly finished their food, then, letting Jace know they were leaving, headed out into the town. There were the usual markets, performers and temples, none of which really interested either of them. They walked around for a while, taking their time so as not to rush Joxer. Eventually, Joxer's fatigue won him over and they stopped at a stream on the outskirts of town. They sat for several minutes in silence until Xena decided to ask one of the many questions that had been circling in her mind for the last few days.

"Joxer, I know I never really asked you before, but I was just wondering how you knew Meg."

He just kept looking forward, neither moving toward nor away from her. "Xena, there are some things you just don't want to know about me, okay?"

"It's not okay. We've known each other for years now. You know all about my past and have seen me at my worst. I don't think there's anything you could tell me that could be worse than what you know about me. If you really feel like you can't tell me anything, I'll respect that. But I want you to know that I'm here for you. There is so much I don't know about you, and I would feel honoured to know even a little more about you."

Still looking straight ahead, he answered her. "We used to work together."

"So you were one of her clients."

"Not exactly." That surprised her. "Her tavern isn't the first one she's worked at. She used to work for this man named Caesius, who I also worked for. We eventually got tired of the way he treated us and the others, and I helped her get her own place. I worked for her there for a while before I'd saved up enough to set out on my own." After letting out those final words, he finally had the courage to look over to see her reaction.

"So you were a..." she couldn't quite get the word out.

"A tramp, whore, prostitute. There are so many words, but in the end it all means the same thing."

"Why?" Her question held no malice, only genuine curiosity.

"My father kicked me out when I was eighteen. I had no real skills and no possessions other than my armour. I almost died on the streets before Caesius took me in. The world doesn't take kindly to boys whose only skills are 'women's work'."

She hated seeing the pain in his eyes and wished she could kill any who had helped to put it there. "Thank you for telling me."

"Thanks for listening."

They took a few moments, sitting there contemplating each other. Xena though how there was something about Joxer that brought out her more tender side, though few realized she actually had such a thing. She reached an arm around his shoulder, pulling him to her. He buried his head in her neck and let flow tears he'd been holding back for years. She pulled back slightly and he raised his face to meet hers. "You feel better now?"

He nodded. She had no idea why she did what she did next. All she knew was that she wanted to take away this pain that had been eating at him for so long. She tilted her face forward until her lips met his. She was shocked as a tiny jolt of electricity hit her. She moved on instinct, parting her lips and reaching out her tongue to taste his. She felt a shiver pass through him as he parted his lips, molding them to hers. As the kiss deepened, she felt his hands on her waist, so warm even through her thick leather. She wrapped both her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. He moaned at the increased contact of their bodies.

She leant forward, pushing him gently onto his back on the grass. Their kisses became more savage, each trying to devour the other. Xena could feel the effects of their passion pressing against her inner thigh, and she moaned as she felt the wetness growing between her legs. Supporting herself with her arms, she moved her kisses from Joxer's delicious lips over to his ear, which she licked and sucked until he was writhing beneath her. "Oh, Xena!"

He had called out her name. She'd almost been afraid he would call out another name -- Gabrielle. Gabrielle? He loved Gabrielle. What was she doing? What were they doing? She stopped and moved off him, trying to get her breathing back under control.

She finally looked at him and saw how confused he was. It pained her to stop, but she knew it was for the best. "We can't do this."

He looked down, closing his eyes and trying to get himself under some kind of control. He slowly nodded. "I guess you're right. Why don't we head back."

"Good idea." She saw him get up with a slightly pained expression on his face. He must still be sore. He couldn't really have wanted this, could he? Of course not. He loved Gabrielle. But he had said he loved her...

They walked back to the tavern in silence. Xena went straight to her room, and Joxer went to find Jace. She couldn't believe what she'd been about to do. Had it been so long since she'd been with a man? That wasn't it, and she knew it. Could she really be developing feelings for Joxer? She'd never really thought of him in that way before, but then again she'd never really had reason to. As far back as she could remember, he'd wanted Gabrielle. She'd even given him advice on how to tell her how he felt.

A knock broke her away from her confused thoughts. "Come in."

Joxer opened the door, then closed it behind him. "Xena, I think we should talk."

"I don't feel like talking, Joxer."

"I do!"

She was shocked at how forceful he sounded. "What do you want to say?"

"Do you remember when I first woke up at the healer's house? I thought I was going to die and I said many things. I remember every word I said and I don't regret any of them. I do love you, Xena."

"I know you care for me, Joxer, but I know you love Gabrielle."

"Will you please let me finish." Xena had to admit she was slightly impressed, though it was a hell of a time for Joxer to show some backbone. "Yes, I do love Gabrielle, but crazy as it sounds, and it sounds absolutely insane even to me, but I love you as well. I never thought for one moment that you would be capable of returning even a little of what I feel for you, until today that is. I know I felt something, and I think you felt it too."

"Joxer, this is wrong."

"Why? We've known each other for years. We've come to care for each other so much. Is it so wrong to think our friendship could turn into something more? Or is it because it's me?"

"Joxer, don't. It's not because of you. Haven't you noticed that I have the worst luck with men? I don't think there's a male alive who's loved me and lived to tell about it."

"Xena, I take that kind of risk every day I spend with you and Gabrielle, as I've been recently reminded, especially now that the Gods are after Eve. I'm not asking for much, only that you not dismiss what's here between us."

She looked deep into his eyes and there it was, erasing all her doubts and breaking down the walls she'd tightly built around her heart. His eyes shone with nothing but love -- love for her. This man would go to the depths of Tartarus and back if she but asked it. He was so much more than all those bad boys in her past.

She realized she no longer wanted to deny what she felt. She walked up to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him passionately. He responded in kind, wrapping his arms around her waist and feeling the muscles in her back through her leathers. She maneuvered him over to the bed, and gently pushed him down onto it. Their hands moved, each trying to feel as much of the other as possible. The caresses turned more frenzied as they rushed to rid each other of their clothing. Soon, two naked bodies pressed against each other, eliciting gasps from both.

Xena reached a hand down to caress the hardness between Joxer's legs. "Mmmmm, so that's why they call you 'the Mighty'."

He moaned as she ran her hand along the all-too sensitive flesh. She kept her hand's attention there as she kissed down his elegant neck. He arched as her lips found and teased an already hard nipple. He gasped her name as she lavished the same attention on the other. She began slowly kissing down his stomach, taking a moment to dip her tongue into his navel, moving toward the part that demanded the most attention.

She nibbled on the insides of his thighs and he whimpered with need. She reached out to savour the taste of the wetness coming from the end of his cock, and she felt a familiar wetness drip from herself. She lavished attention on the engorged flesh before her, running her tongue up and down the shaft, and under the edge of the head.

"Oh, Xena!"

She took it all in her mouth and tightened her grip on his hips so they wouldn't move much. She wrapped her lips around the cock, providing a gentle suction as her tongue continued running along his flesh. After what seemed like ages, Joxer's hands gripped her shoulders and pulled her up. He kissed her deeply, tasting himself on her and maneuvering her onto her back.

He moved his head down, taking one hardened peak into his mouth. She moaned as his skillful mouth teased the tiny bud, then moved to run his tongue down her breastbone, then under each mound. He continued kissing lower until he reached her center. He lapped up her juices, teased her clit out of hiding, and alternated between languid licks and tiny nibbles. Soon, Xena was writhing under his skilled ministrations.

"Joxer, I need you. Now!"

He left her core and moved up to meet her lips in a crushing kiss. She used her strength to push him onto his back. Then, taking his member into her hand, she lowered onto him. They both let out held breaths as they completed each other. She began moving up and down his shaft. He reached up, teasing her hardened nipples as she moved above him. Their desires already reaching their peaks, Xena came with scream, crying Joxer's name. The contractions milked out Joxer's own orgasm, and he called out Xena's name.

Soon, they lay spent and exhausted in each other's arms. They eventually caught their breaths and looked into each other's eyes, seeking confirmation that what they'd done was right.

"I love you Joxer."

His face lit up brighter than she'd ever seen. "I never thought I'd ever hear you say that." They lay for a while until Xena noticed Joxer looking overly pensive.

"Okay, spill it."

Joxer looked slightly sheepish. "I was just thinking. What are we going to tell Gabrielle?"

Xena was worried for a moment until she looked into his eyes and saw nothing but his love for her. "Well, I'd start by telling her what a fool she is for passing you by, but there's so much I'd rather tell you."

"Like what?"

"Like this..." It wasn't long until the room was once again filled with moans and cries of passion.

* * *

A figure walked away from outside Xena's room.

"Well Eve, it looks like your uncle has finally made your mommy happy. Now, why don't I tell you about the time me, your uncle Joxer and our brother Jett tried to play a trick on one of our daddy's warlord friends. You see, since we all look alike..."
